You want to know about my life? I have absolutely no idea why! My life is pretty normal, really- except the part where I'm a muggleborn who only found out that I had magical powers when I was eleven... I guess that's not very normal, at least not in the muggle world. There are surprisingly a lot of muggleborns out there, and I don't understand why some people don't like us... I mean, I've never done anything to any of them, and yet I'm hated purely because of my blood? In the muggle world we have blood types too, except nobody gets judged by which theirs is, and it doesn't determine who we are or stupid things like that. It's just there if you need a blood transplant or something... I guess there are other ways to do that in the wizarding world, eh? I don't really know much about it, even though I've been a part of it for a good few years now! Anyway, I grew up as a muggle, because that's what both of my parents are. Maria and Garrett Slade are their names, and I'm their youngest child- I have an older brother, and he's also a wizard, which I'm told is pretty unheard of; you know, to have two muggleborns in the same family... but anyway, I grew up in Ireland and went to muggle schools and played with the muggle children, and I had no idea that I was magic. There were signs, I guess, but magic wasn't real back then- it was something I imagined to be real, and nothing more than that. It's like the games you play as a kid; you pretend things are real and not imaginary, and you really hope that they are, but they never turn out to be. Well, magic was different, obviously. I was eleven, naturally, when I found out I was magical, and received the letter teaching me of my acceptance to Hogwarts. Before then, there had been signs, although I'd never realised that it was me doing such things, that I was capable of that... I guess I should explain. Weird things used to happen- when I was little, I sometimes got chased home by the older kids, and I remember this one time it happened and they suddenly just- stopped. They were running full pelt towards me, and I was faced with this huge wall, and they just stopped and fell, as though they had walked into something. Like there was an invisible wall in their way. It was so surreal; I just clambered over the brick wall and ran home as quickly as I could, and didn't mention it again... there were other things, too, but that was the main occurrence, really. I had no idea what it meant at the time, and it was pretty terrifying! Hogwarts was like a whole new world for me- Diagon Alley had been a huge shock too, when I'd had to go there to get all of my school stuff, and my parents and I had just looked around in awe, although they'd already been there the year before with my brother... I'd hoped all year that I would be magical too, and it turned out that I was, which was incredible. I was sorted in Gryffindor in Hogwarts, and everyone says that suits me, because I'm a fiery, sometimes confrontational girl. I'm not afraid to stand up for myself, and I always make sure people know that they can't treat me badly, or push me down and walk all over me... I guess I just don't want people to see me as weak. I've spent the last few years at school, and I love it here! My parents are super proud of me and my brother for being wizards, although some people at school don't agree that I should be here, due to my blood... I make it known that I belong here as much as they do, and I won't be leaving for anybody." |
