LONGBOTTOM full name: frank oliver longbottom canon or orginial: canon age: sixteen year: sixth house: gryffindor blood: pureblood wand: 12 1/4 in, cherry wood, unicorn hair patronus: black bear boggart: death erised: him and alice as aurors and in love birth place: london, england ------------------------------------------------- FRANK LONGBOTTOM WAS BORN INTO A MODEST PUREBLOOD FAMILY OF AVERAGE WEALTH. HIS PARENTS, AUGUSTA AND PETER, WERE BOTH HIGH UP IN THE MINISTRY AND VERY DEDICATED TO THEIR JOBS AT THAT. FRANK WAS THEIR ONLY CHILD, BECAUSE REALLY ONE CHILD WAS ALL THEY COULD MANAGE. THEIR BUSY WORK SCHEDULES DIDN'T PROVIDE AS MUCH FAMILY TIME AS THEY WOULD HAVE WANTED. BUT REGARDLESS THE LONGBOTTOMS LOVED THEIR SON DEARLY AND FRANK GREW UP EMULATING THEM. HE WANTED TO WORK FOR THE MINISTRY WHEN HE GRADUATED FROM HOGWARTS, BUT HE DIDN'T WANT A JOB LIKE THEIR WHICH HE CONSIDERED "BORING". HE WANTED TO BE AN AUROR! HE SAW THEIR LIVES AS FAST-PACED AND EXCITING, WHICH WAS UNLIKE HIS PERSONALITY, BUT HE WANTED TO PROVE EVERYONE WRONG. MEANWHILE, HE STILL HAD HOGWARTS TO GET TO BEFORE THEN. FRANK WAS INCREDIBLY NERVOUS WHEN HE FIRST GOT TO HOGWARTS, BUT HE WAS EAGER TO LEARN ALL HE COULD TO FULFILL HIS CHILDHOOD DREAM OF BECOMING AN AUROR. DURING HIS SORTING CEREMONY, FRANK WAS PARTICULARLY CERTAIN THAT HE WOULD BE SORTED INTO HUFFLEPUFF HOUSE. BOTH HIS PARENTS HAD BEEN HUFFLEPUFF ALUMNUS AND SO WERE ONE SET OF HIS GRANDPARENTS. BUT IN THE BACK OF HIS MIND, FRANK DIDN'T REALLY WANT TO BE SORTED INTO HUFFLEPUFF. HE IDENTIFIED MOST WITH GRYFFINDOR HOUSE. EVEN THOUGH ON THE TRAIN RIDE OVER HE HAD HEARD SOMEONE SAY "NOW THERE'S A PUFF FOR SURE" WHEN HE DROPPED HIS TRUNK AND ALL OF ITS CONTENTS HAD FALLEN OUT. BUT FRANK DIDN'T WANT TO FOLLOW IN THOSE FOOTSTEPS. FRANK WANTED TO BE BRAVE AND FEARLESS! IN HIS HEART HE WAS COURAGEOUS AS COULD BE, EVEN IF THAT DIDN'T REALLY TRANSLATE TO THE CLUMSY OAF HE WAS ON THE OUTSIDE. BUT AS IS SOMETIMES THE CASE WITH THE SORTING HAT, SOMETIMES OUR CHOICES DEFINE WHO WE ARE, AS MUCH AS (OR EVEN MORE THAN), OUR ACTIONS. FRANK WAS SORTED INTO GRYFFINDOR MUCH TO HIS OWN DELIGHT. HE KNEW IT WAS HIS DESTINY. FRANK SPENT THE REST OF HIS YEARS AT HOGWARTS TRYING HIS BEST AT HIS STUDIES, EVEN THOUGH HE WASN'T THE TOP OF HIS CLASS IN ANY OF HIS SUBJECTS. HIS FAVORITE WAS DEFENSE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS. NATURALLY HE SAW IT AS PRIME TRAINING TO BECOME AN AUROR. DESPITE HIS FAULTS, FRANK MADE FRIENDS FAIRLY WELL THROUGHOUT HIS YEARS AT HOGWARTS. DESPITE HIS AWKWARDNESS AND THE FACT THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE THOUGHT HE DIDN'T BELONG IN GRYFFINDOR, FRANK SOUGHT OUT TO PROVE PEOPLE WRONG. FURTHERMORE, HE HAD A HEART OF GOLD AND NO ONE COULD DENY HIS GENEROSITY TOWARDS OTHERS. AND HE STOOD UP FOR WHAT HE BELIEVED IN TOO. FRANK WAS THE KIND OF PERSON WHO WOULD STAND UP FOR ANOTHER PERSON BEING BULLIED, EVEN IF IT MEANT GETTING HIS OWN ASS KICKED. |

— Frank Longbottom sat comfortably in a red arm chair in the Gryffindor common room. Across from him, sat one of his Gryffindor mates, and between them, a board of wizard's chess. They had been playing rounds all evening. Frank was (as usual) finished his homework early and he and his friend had begun a series of wizard chess matches, a mini-tournament, if you will. They had been at it all evening, it was ridiculous really. Frank didn't seem to mind though. It wasn't like anyone had invited him to do anything more exciting this evening. Besides, he was a master of wizard's chess. It made him feel good to do something he was actually good at. Frankie sat with one hand under his chin, examining the wizards' chess board quizzically. As he hovered over the board, pondering what his next move would be, his friend reached across the board and whacked Frank in the head. "Oi! Look," his friend snickered pointing to the painting entrance to the common room.
Frank looked up just in time to see a flash of Alice Logan racing through the common room and up the steps to the dormitory. He was sad to see her disappear so quickly, but he figured she had better things to do after classes than sit around playing wizards chess like these two were. Once she disappeared up the steps to the girls' dormitories, Frank looked back to the chess board and realized he had completely lost his train of thought for whatever move he was pondering next. He stared at the board for a while trying to figure out where his train of thought had been going when he noticed a few of his pieces were missing. He looked across from him at the guilty face of his friend. Alright, put them back, Frank said with a small laugh. "Maybe we should get Alice to run by every time we play wizard's chess," his friend said returning the pieces he had stolen to the board. Maybe then you'd actually win a match for once, Frank shot back jokingly.
They returned to their game, but Frank now found that he was bored of it and distracted since Alice had flown through the common room. His staring around boredly soon found a purpose though, for Alice emerged not too long after from the girls' dormitories and settled on one of the sofas nearby enjoying a sugar quill. All of sudden Frank's friend was snapping his fingers in front of his face. "Hello? Earth to Frankie!" Huh, what? Frank responded, turning back to his friend. "It's your move," his friend explained, motioning to the chess board. Frank glanced back at Alice. Yeah, I don't really feel like playing anymore... His friend rolled his eyes at Frank. "Well, are you gonna stare at her all night or go say hello?" he teased. Shut up will you! Frank hissed, worried that Alice had heard the conversation. His friend stood up. "Well, you can sit here and look like you're playing wizard's chess alone, or you can go over there and say hello, but I will not enable your staring while you pretend to socialize with me," his friend said before strolling away, a grin on his face.
Frank grumbled and got up too. He approached the couch hesitantly and then sat down next to Alice. Frank cleared his throat. Did you know they make blood flavored sugar quills for vampires? Well, they're not actually sugar quills at all, they're called blood quills, Frank said matter-of-factly to Alice. He was terrible at starting a conversation and he usually entered one with random facts about the world. His awkwardness in front of Alice was undeniable, but he had no way of controlling it. He was just terrible at socializing with Alice Logan. He could already feel his palms getting sweaty.
