LOGAN full name: alice lydia logan canon or orginial: canon age: sixteen year: sixth house: gryffindor blood: pure-blood wand: 13 1/2", willow, unicorn tail patronus: dolphin boggart: never feeling like her parents see her as special or worth spending more time with. erised: truly being a brave gryffindor and having an adventurous career where she gets to see the world. birth place: dinas powys, wales ------------------------------------------------- the logan family hails from a small town called dinas powys in south wales. the logans lived in the capital city of cardiff when they were married, but decided to relocate to a more rural area to raise their children. alice was a relentlessly curious toddler, always getting into trouble. this trait carried over to her later years, and to this day, alice can be a little nosy, although she doesn't mean any harm by it. if you know alice, you know that an accurate word to describe her might be... quirky. she's just a little strange. not in a bad way, necessarily, but... strange. alice enjoys dabbling in muggle photography as opposed to traditional wizarding photographs, reading any books he can get her hands on, and colorful sweaters. since she was a youngster playing in the yard with her little sister, alice has always been protective of her. she doesn't exactly have motherly instincts when it comes to any other aspects of her life, but if anyone hurts her little sister in any way, a terrifying, unfamiliar side of alice will emerge (her lioness side, if you will) and you do not want to be on the receiving end. this protectiveness may stem from the fact that alice's mother was never especially maternal. both of alice's parents were magical historians and they spent much of their time traveling around doing research, or if they were home, they were immersed in writing essays and books and such. alice could never understand how they were so fascinated by the past -- she was much more actively interested in the present, and the future. the logans are a middle-class family, so alice was far from spoiled. she and her sister were required to do chores around the house and such. although they were busy, alice's parents made sure to make sure their children knew the difference between right and wrong, so alice grew up with a strong sense of justice. apart from protecting her sister, she simply can't stand for others being bullied or neglected, and she often befriends people that others might not think to or wouldn't want to. many might view alice as being innocent in a lot of ways -- she certainly hasn't had much experience with boys, most likely because she's not the typical type they tend to chase. alice isn't exactly loud or outgoing, but she's generally not the least bit shy, either, so she makes friends quite easily. she's accepting of virtually everyone. miss logan can be a chatterbox, as any of her friends can tell you, and if she's ever in a situation where she feels nervous or uncomfortable, she will blabber away even more. she might also resort to humor, although she's not the best joke-teller and sometimes her witty comebacks are not up to par with, say, ravenclaws. speaking of houses, alice was pleasantly surprised when she was sorted into gryffindor. she never thought of herself as exceptionally ambitious, so slytherin was out, nor very smart, so ravenclaw wasn't an option, and certainly not brave, so she always assumed she'd be put into hufflepuff. but apparently the sorting hat knew something she didn't. despite her friendliness and chatty, smiley personality, alice has an extremely stubborn streak. once her mind is made up about something, there is close to nothing that can make her budge. if someone gets in her bad graces, she tends to hold grudges rather than let it go. and although she's generally not a conflict-seeking person, if provoked enough she has a fiery temper that is often rather shocking to those who are used to her usual friendly and calm, self. alice is very often easily distracted, which posed some problems in lessons during her first few years at hogwarts, but she's learned to focus much better. since then, she has greatly improved her magical skills, notably charms and defense against the dark arts. lately alice has been thinking that once she leaves hogwarts she would like to train to be an auror, especially with all the current commotion in the wizarding world. it certainly seems to be the opportune time to become an auror. at the same time, alice isn't entirely sure she'd be very good at being an auror. clearly her self-esteem isn't the highest. |

"Hmmm?" Alice snapped her head back to look at the herbology professor, her attention having drifted over to a terrifying, tentacled plant near the window. She wasn't surprised if it ate small animals. Or babies. She suddenly realized that the professor had asked her a question and he was not frowning at her in disapproval. Well really, he shouldn't have so many distracting plant life around. "I'm sorry, can you repeat the question?" Alice asked hopefully. "I was just distracted by your... really nice ... vine, over there." Flattery couldn't hurt, right? Unfortunately the professor didn't seem the least bit satisfied, but relented and posed his question again... which was why she couldn't seem to tell the difference between a fanged geranium and a flitterbloom. Herbology really wasn't her thing, that was why.
Ten minutes later stepped out of the muggy greenhouse into the brisk October air of the grounds, feeling a bit forlorn. She never took very kindly to teacher's chastising her because it didn't happen very often, and she hated that knot of disappointment in her stomach that formed in each instance. She wished she could just not allow it to get to her, but that's what she got for her innate craving for approval from authority figures. It was really quite unfortunate.
Alice sighed and stepped on a particularly crunchy leaf as she made her way up toward the castle, which made her feel a bit better. She made her way through the castle, heading toward Gryffindor tower. The hallways weren't particularly busy on this Saturday afternoon since many students were off gallivanting around Hogsmeade. She thought she caught a glimpse of James Potter and Sirius Black, fellow Gryffindor sixth years, no doubt getting into some kind of trouble or another. They really were the school troublemakers. The only time Alice got in trouble was accidentally. She really probably should be in Hufflepuff, since they were supposed to be the passive, boring house. Frowning inwardly at herself, Alice erased that thought from her mind. She knew plenty of Hufflepuffs who were anything but boring. Her mood was just rather dark at the moment.
"Alice!" The familiar voice stopped her in her tracks and she turned to see her younger sister emerge from a doorway to her left, which she believed came from the Owlery. Her sister looked pleased to see her, which wasn't always the case, since Alice sometimes acted too much like her mother rather than her older sister. Alice was about to say hello when her little sister heaved an irritated sigh and rolled her eyes as she informed her, "Mum and Dad are planning a vacation to Italy over Christmas... without us."
Good for them, was Alice's first thought. Then her petty side stepped in and she pulled a face. "So we're staying here for Christmas?" The thought wasn't exactly abhorrent -- Hogwarts was beautiful at Christmas and the feast for those few students who stayed was supposed to be spectacular. But still, their Christmas at home was the only time of year when their parents put their work aside and indulged in hot chocolate around the fireplace and sledding around the many hills around their home in wales. Alice looked forward to it every year. But maybe it would do their parents good to have a romantic getaway without their daughters. "Oh well," she said, shrugging. "They deserve it. We'll have fun here! We've never been to the Christmas feast before." That was Alice, always trying to look on the bright side of things. She was relatively certain her sister wouldn't be so understanding.
