EVANS full name: Lily Nicole Evans canon or orginial: canon age: sixteen year: sixth house: gryffindor blood: muggle born wand: 10¼", Willow, swishy patronus: doe boggart: Failure usually scares just about everyone, but Lily's greatest fear isn't just failure, it's letting people down in such a cataclysmic failure that she has no way to recover from it. erised: Lily would love nothing more than to see herself being accepted by her sister, Petunia. birth place: Cokeworth, England ------------------------------------------------- Mr. and Mrs. Evans already had a daughter, but they didn't stop at just one. Lily was born on the 30th of January in 1960, making her the second (and last) child in the family. Lily would prove to be an extraordinary surprise. At first she was very close to her older sister. As the younger of the two, Lily often looked up to Petunia for support and friendship. That changed, however, when Lily began showing signs that she was more than what she seemed. When she started making things move and making flowers bloom almost instantly, it was clear that there was something different about the girl. At first, Lily wished she could make everything stop. Her sister started pulling away from her and that was the last thing that Lily wanted. But things didn't stop. Instead she began showing more of these unusual skills, and kept unintentionally pushing her sister away. If it hadn't been for Petunia's dislike of the things that Lily was able to do, the young girl probably would have found much enjoyment in the activities. It hurt her, though, when Petunia called her a freak and said there was something wrong with her. When Lily was nine years old she met a boy. Severus Snape lived in a nearby neighborhood. Petunia made fun of him for coming from an area that was known for being poor, but Lily had no problems with the boy. In fact, she was grateful that he'd come into her life when he showed her that he was like her. He said it was magic and that she was a witch. She didn't feel like a witch. Weren't witches supposed to be ugly and mean? The little Evans girl didn't think she was either of those things. Oh she wasn't perfect, but she didn't intentionally hurt people. Witches were supposed to be bad. She couldn't deny the amazing feeling of finally having a word for what she was, though. Having someone to talk to that was like her made her feel more at ease about what she could do. Maybe she wasn't such a freak after all. Severus also told her about a school for people who were like them. A whole school! He seemed certain that she'd get a letter to go to the school too and he knew he was going to get one. It would be lovely to have a friend. Just as Severus had said, Lily got her letter to attend Hogwarts. Her parents were delighted; Petunia wasn't as excited. Lily made promises to talk to Professor Dumbledore and see if Petunia could come along too, but her sister just glared and said mean things to her and claimed that she wouldn't want to go to a school for freaks. Lily was hurt again, but decided that she'd still ask if her sister could come to the school too. She boarded the train to Hogwarts with spirits a little lower than she had initially planned. Oh, she was excited about going to a place for people like her to be sure, but her argument and continuing strain between her and her sister was taking a toll. At the Sorting Ceremony, Lily was put into Gryffindor house while Severus was put into Slytherin. Of course there were rumors about the Slytherin house, but Lily didn't mind continuing her friendship with the boy who had explained what she was. Not all Slytherins were bad, anyway, and she was sure that there were people in the other houses that weren't all good. Lily herself knew that she had her downfalls. So she remained friends with Severus even though their houses were supposed to be sort of feuding. Severus was her friend and that was just that. People would have to deal with it. It was quite clear from the start that Lily had a great deal of power. Even before Hogwarts she had started learning to control her abilities, but with the right training and with some serious dedication to her classes, Lily was quickly becoming one of the top students in her year. She had a knack particularly for Potions and Charms, the latter was something that her wand was naturally suited for, but she got along well in her other classes as well. She studied more than she did anything else, so when someone asked how she did so well she'd chalk it up to spending several nights in the Common room by candlelight reading a book or in the Library doing exactly the same thing. She was naturally equipped for researching and could be seen carrying several books from the Library to her room on a regular basis. This, she thought, would surly maker her sister like her. If she was good at what she was maybe things between her and Petunia would be fine. They weren't. In fact, the two kept growing apart with every year. Sad that this was happening, Lily returned to Hogwarts every year with hopes that she could find a way to make her sister like her again. This idea never left her, even as she began progressing through the years, though she admittedly became more mature about it and started considering the fact that she'd have to accept their distance at some point. It scared her that she would never be as close to her sister as they once were, but they weren't exactly little kids anymore. While Lily still wanted to be friends with her sister, she realized that Petunia had some growing up to do herself. She returned her fifth year to be named a Prefect. Her parents, again, were delighted and so was Lily. It was a big responsibility and she wanted to make sure she did it right. It would be a big year. The fifth year in Hogwarts was also the year that the students took their O.W.L.s and Lily was determined to do well on those. She had already read a good portion of her school books before the term had even started, but she'd had to wait to get to school to start actually practicing. The few times she had tried at home, the Ministry was quick to send letters to remind her that she wasn't allowed. She knew she wasn't allowed to do magic outside of school, but she wanted to show her parents what she was capable of... until they told her it had to stop because they were afraid that she'd be expelled. She studied a lot more during her fifth year and at the end of the exams felt very confident that she'd done well in all of the areas. She went out of the castle for a little stroll when she found Potter and his crew tormenting Severus. They boys had always been a little immature, which was a shame because they might have been good people otherwise, so it wasn't a surprise. But Severus was still her friend and she had to go stick up for him. After getting Potter to call off the spell he was doing, Lily was rewarded by her best friend calling her a Mudblood. Hurt, Lily told him that she'd remember that next time he needed help, and stomped off. She wasn't the same for a long time. Miss Evans avoided her friend at all costs and decided that if he wanted to go that way then she could accept that. She didn't let anyone see her cry, although cry she did. This was the second person who was close to her that had pushed her away for being what she was. In hindsight, she really should have known it was coming. She knew that he liked hanging out with the other kids who valued blood purity, but she had held out thinking that Severus could change. Obviously, he wasn't, but that didn't keep him from trying to make amends. Lily wouldn't have it. He'd meant what he'd said and she wasn't going to forgive him for that. Her fifth year was also the year that James started continuously asking her out. She kept turning him down but, man, was that boy persistent. It wasn't that she didn't like James, actually she sort of admired him for the way he treated his friends and made sure they weren't being disrespected, but he was just so immature. If he'd just grow up a little bit he'd be fine. However, Lily was done with immaturity. She wanted to be around people who knew what they want but didn't humiliate others to get it. So she went into her sixth year: single, estranged from her sister and best friend, and determined to loosen up a little – she wasn't going to slip into being immature, but she was finally realizing that school wasn't all about studying. |

The drive to the train station was the longest one in the history of car rides. As usual, Lily's sister sat as far away from her in the backseat as physically possible. What made Petunia dislike magic so much, Lily would never understand. She didn't think it was possible for it to all be jealousy but she also didn't know what Petunia would think she had to be afraid of. Lily wasn't going to make something bad happen to her older sister, even if sometimes that option sounded like a good idea. No, Lily was much more mature than that. While the idea of her sister's chair toppling over at the dinner table might have been a briefly amusing thought, Lily knew it wouldn't fix (and would probably make things much worse) whatever had happened between her and her sister.
As usual, Lily felt sad and excited at the same time as her parents drove to the train station that would separate her and her family until Christmas. The younger Evans girl loved her school. It was filled with students just like her. Okay, maybe not just like her, but pretty close. Some of them were muggle born like her, some had known about what they were their entire life. But they all had the ability to do magic as a shared trait. Lily just hated leaving another summer with her sister angry, jealous, afraid, or some combination of the three at her yet again. That, and she missed her parents when she was gone. But they were so proud of her, and Hogwarts really was a place that she belonged.
The train station was packed with people. Every year there were several people, mostly non-magical but that didn't bother Lily any, trying to get somewhere. What she found amusing was that she never really knew where any of them were going, aside from the other witches and wizards of course. Her father unloaded her trunk from the back of the car and they made their way through the gateway to Platform 9 ¾. She didn't know why her sister had come. Petunia came with them every year but she never had anything nice to say. Lily almost wanted to tell her to go back to the car and cry but that was just mean and she knew that deep down Petunia wasn't a bad person. Lily always wanted to see the good in people. Everyone had something good in them, you just had to look for it. But her sister really was being a little brat. This would have been a much happier occasion if Petunia had stayed home. Maybe she'd come because she knew they were still sisters, no matter how far apart they were becoming.
Lily gave her mother and father a hug goodbye. She went to do the same for her sister but Petunia turned away and left Lily with a frown on her face. Someday they would be close again. She gave her mother and father a forced smile and assured them that she'd be fine, again (Jesus she was going into her sixth year weren't they over the whole protective thing now?) and loaded her trunk onto the train. First thing was first – she needed to get to the other Prefects. She found a place for her trunk and made her way through the train, settling herself in for a long ride and determined to shrug off the sadness from the rejection Petunia had slid her way by the time she reached Hogwarts.
